Pharmacologic Stress Testing

The New York Cardiac Diagnostic Center is one of only a few cardiac testing centers in NYC to offer dipyridamole stress testing (also known as nuclear pharmacologic stress testing). In a traditional stress test patients exercise to make the heart beat faster. Dipyridamole stress testing may be used if you cannot safely exercise enough to make your heart beat faster. Dipyridamole / pharmacologic stress testing causes the blood vessels in the heart to dilate. Diseased blood vessels do not open as well as healthy vessels, and this effect can be seen in images of the heart that are taken during the test. This test is primarily used by the best cardiologists near NYC to determine if the patient has coronary artery disease.
